I had a video playing in the RDP window to judge responsiveness. RDP was usable up until 5% loss, after that it became unusable at 10% loss.
SSL-VPN never disconnected even with 10% loss, heavy jitter and high latency. Then connected SSL-VPN to the office and RDP'd to the term server. Recently I took a linux box and bridged two NICs then used tc to emulate WAN connections by injecting loss/latency/jitter/errors into the traffic stream. We started with IPsec client-vpn but found SSL-VPN to be noticeably more reliable on poor connections. I have hit a dead end with Fortinet Support as they said it’s a FortiClient and not a FortiGate issue, so I am at a loss at this stage. always-up (which requires the paid FortiClient if I am not mistaken) works well. Reading through other posts here, these disconnects seem to be very common if I am not mistaken? I would like to find out what we can do in order to make this more stable? We use FortiClient 6.0.9 and 6.2.6 and FortiOS is on version 6.0.9 - but this has been a problem for us since FortiClient/FortiOS versions 5.4.x. We have been struggling with this from day one but it is a real challenge now that almost everyone is working from home. Especially on Internet links where packets drop here and there, FortiClient loses connection very frequently, for some of our users 10 times a day.
